Shalynn Cavanagh

Bio: Shalynn Cavanagh is a local musician who can often be found frequenting live music events and open mics around the city.  She’s been playing piano and singing for nearly 25 years, and has been teaching music for the past 8 years as well! Shalynn loves to sing in choirs and groups, and volunteers for our local Sherwood Park Music Festival as well. It’s been a long two years without many opportunities for live music, and Shalynn is thrilled that regular performances are starting again – she hopes to see you all soon!

Tell us about your involvement with music? (E.g. What instrument(s) do you play, genre, etc)
I’ve been playing piano and singing for many years now. I love all kinds of music, but my favourite genres to perform are pop and musical theatre.
Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in Drayton Valley, then moved to Sherwood Park/Edmonton area and have been here ever since.
Who inspires you (musically or life in general)?
Hmmmm, musically my biggest inspiration right now is musical-writing duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, who are insanely talented and wrote a musical that’s making big waves right now.
Who’s your favourite band/artist?
My favourite artist is Adele, followed by Taylor Swift, and my favourite band is Pearl Jam!
What song best sums you up?
I’m not sure which song “sums” me up, but my two most favourite songs are Just Breathe by Pearl Jam, and All I Ask by Adele.
What would your dream vacation be?
My favourite place in the world is Australia, but I’d love to visit Greece since I’ve never been.
If you won the lottery and could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Cleaning, definitely!
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Tuna casserole or lasagna
Do you like or dislike surprises?
I like good surprises!
Star Wars or Star Trek?
Star Wars
DC or Marvel?
Marvel
List two pet peeves?
I hate when people tap or shake tables or chairs I’m sitting on haha! And, this isn’t really a pet peeve but a controversial opinion – onions are the worst, they taste terrible, and I don’t understand why people eat them.
